MINIATURE snow shovels have been presented to the hardy volunteers who helped bring hyperfast broadband to Silverdale despite freezing conditions.
Among those who made "a heroic digging effort" in wintry weather were Martin Lange, Ray Blacklee, Andrew Skinner and Jerry Martin.
The volunteer diggers accepted their snow shovel awards from community benefit society B4RN - Broadband for the Rural North - on behalf of everybody who made 1GB fibre-optic broadband possible for Silverdale's households and businesses.
B4RN is run by a dedicated local team with the support of landowners and volunteers.
The awards were presented at Silverdale Golf Club's new Oak Room Bistro by Andy Wells, the B4RN organiser for Silverdale.
Meanwhile, the golf club is working with B4RN and the Friends of Silverdale Station (FOSS) to bring wi-fi to the railway station's platform waiting room. It is hoped it will be installed at the FOSS volunteer day on June 6.
