A PLUMBING student is hatching out a promising career with egg Homes.

Nineteen-year-old Kyle Davis has been offered a plumbing apprenticeship after completing a two-week work placement with the property developer near the hamlet of Hincaster.

The Morecambe lad, who is studying at Lancaster and Morecambe College, worked alongside plumbers on the company's luxurious, four and five-bedroom properties at Viver Green, which have been designed to be

ecologically efficient.

When Kyle begins his apprenticeship, he will learn more about the latest energy efficiency system and how they can be combined with traditional materials and techniques to create "healthy homes".

"It’s been a great opportunity to work with egg Homes," said Kyle, who lives in Morecambe.

"I’ve learnt so much in a short time from people with years of experience in the trade. I’m really enjoying working with egg Homes on this site."

The plumbing student has also had a lesson in poultry farming as the Viver Green site was once a poultry farm, and each of the 22 homes are named after breeds of chicken, including Ancona, Campine and Barnevelder.

Ashley Reece, director of construction at egg Homes, said: "We are keen to work with local colleges to take on apprentices and train our staff to be the best that they can.

"The construction trade doesn’t have a great reputation at the moment and we’d like to try and change that perception to one of a modern trade with fantastic opportunities for young people."

All egg Homes are built using high-density polystyrene panels with a solid concrete core that provides excellent thermal and sound insulation and fire safety. Other features of the A-rated properties are triple-glazed aluminium windows and doors, air source heat pumps, underfloor heating and solar panels.
