CARNFORTH has an "adequate number" of police officers and the local force is "not overly stretched", Insp James Martin told Carnforth Town Council.

The Lancashire Constabulary office assured the council's recent meeting that beat officers and police community support officers (PCSOs) assigned to the town will remain.

Cllr Aurelian Barbu, who has an art supplies shop, asked about police response times and said he had waited "many hours" for police to attend after a break-in at his business.

Insp Martin explained how different calls are prioritised and graded in terms of their severity and whether a crime is in progress at the time.

Councillors also raised questions about problems with a care home for young people in Carnforth. Insp Martin said police worked with care homes, and Ofsted would become involved if there was a problem with a particular one. Cllr Kath Bromilow pointed out there could be problems with the behaviour of young people not in care homes.

Councillors thanked Insp Martin for taking the time to attend and agreed to send him the dates of future meetings.
