DESPITE 67 letters of objection, outline plans for nine new homes in Warton met with unanimous approval from Lancaster City Council.

Strong Developments Ltd hopes to build seven detached houses and a pair of semis on part of a field north of Main Street, on the western fringes of the north Lancashire village.

The plans attracted one letter of support and dozens of letters from objectors, with concerns about the "executive-type dwellings" being built instead of smaller homes.

Warton Parish Council also opposed the scheme, as did Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), saying half the homes should be affordable and meet local need.

In their report, planning officers said the nine homes and new access "would not have a significant detrimental impact on the special qualities of the AONB".

The planning and highways regulatory committee voted to grant outline consent, and said two of the homes should be affordable.
