Members of the Thursday Group Ladies, who meet in Melling Village Hall, used their fashion sense to raise £1,400 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

Committee member Sheila Griffiths organised a sell-out catwalk show, held in the hall.

The audience enjoyed cheese and wine as it settled to watch models showcase the latest autumn/winter and party season outfits from Carnforth’s Kitty Brown’s Boutique. The boutique also donated 10 per cent from the price tag of any items sold on the night to help the group’s fundraising, which was further boosted by a raffle.

Sheila said: “It was an excellent evening. I would like to thank everyone who attended, Kitty Brown’s Boutique for staging the show for free for us and some very generous local businesses, which donated some wonderful raffle prizes ranging from afternoon tea for two to vouchers. They helped make for a very successful raffle, which alone raised more than £400.”

Rosemere Cancer Foundation spends the donations it receives on vital equipment, research and training that cannot be funded by the NHS. It works to bring world class cancer treatments and services to local cancer patients throughout South Cumbria and Lancashire via their local hospitals and the region’s specialist cancer centre, the Rosemere Cancer Centre in Preston, which also undertakes all local radiotherapy treatment.

Over the last year, Rosemere Cancer Foundation has invested £142,428 in projects benefiting cancer patients being treated at hospitals in Kendal, Lancaster and Barrow.

The charity also funds those things that can make the cancer journey a little more comfortable such as free access to complementary therapies for all newly diagnosed patients.
