TWO thousand balloons will be released into the sky to help raise money for a hospice.

Great Harwood and Rishton Rotary Club has organised a balloon race with the hope of raising £4,000.

The balloons, sponsored by search 55.com, are on sale for £2 and the sender of the balloon which travels the furthest will receive a balloon ride for six people, courtesy of Pendle Balloon Company and worth £600.

Balloons can be bought from shops in the two towns displaying balloon posters. They will be released at the Great Harwood Agricultural Show on Bank Holiday Monday, May 26.

While it's a great idea and I hope it does a great job for the hospice, unfortunately, it's not very environmentally friendly.
