FAMILY and friends will mark the first anniversary of the death of a Blackburn grandmother and yoga teacher today.

Freda Holt, 70, was killed in a hit-and-run outside her Revidge Road home, by Salim Chand, who had been driving at up to 70mph.

Her husband Ray said he will be attending a service with his family at St Charles RC Church, Rishton, and will visit her grave.

He said: “It is important to take some time to think about Freda, but I do that all the time.”

Daughter Rachel Harling, from Rishton, added: “It has been a hard year and this week will be even harder.

“As a family we’ll get together and remember mum. It’s the special occasions when it is worst.

"Getting through last Christmas was really difficult.

"But it’s harder for my dad, because we all get caught up in family life.”

There will also be a mass at Sacred Heart Church tomorrow.

Chand, originally from Revidge Road, Blackburn, was jailed for nine years and recently lost an appeal against his sentence.
