IN reply to Coun Brian Gordon (LT, January 22), I am the eldest son of Freda Holt, tragically killed on November 8 in a fail-to-stop incident on Revidge Road, Blackburn.

As far as these type of incidents are concerned, I have said similar myself even before the incident that killed my mother.

However, I have to come out in support of the police. They have been unswerving in their time, effort and diligence in bringing this crime to a full and satisfactory conclusion.

I don’t think the comment by DI King was at all out place.

Yes, Salim Chand should not have been behind the wheel of that vehicle and was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but so was my mother.

If I had picked up my phone at home and called 10 minutes earlier, she would not have been there.

That is hindsight and there is no point dwelling on what could or should have been.

Regardless of the sentences that will or will not be passed regarding this crime, which incidentally is out of police hands, our British justice system must prevail, however unjust it may seem.

It will not bring back our mother, my father’s wife or her grandchildren’s grandma, but at least we will have our day in court.

For this we must thankful.
