A 57-year-old man has been charged by detectives investigating the rape of a woman 22 years ago, police said today.
James John Robertson, from Spring Street, Rishton, was arrested on Tuesday by officers from Kent Police's cold case investigation team.
He was taken to Kent for questioning about the rape of a 20-year-old woman in Canterbury in August 1988.
Robertson will appear before Canterbury magistrates today charged with rape, indecent assault, unlawful imprisonment and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, a Kent Police spokesman said.
His arrest followed a reinvestigation of the offences by the cold case team in conjunction with the Forensic Science Service.
