TRAFFIC is at a 'standstill' after a car and lorry collided on the M65 this morning.

The crash has happened on M65 Eastbound between junction seven and junction eight eastbound between Rishton and Accrington at around 9.30am.

Two lanes of the carriageway are closed and there is queuing traffic in the direction of Burnley.

There is a spillage and debris across the carriageway caused by the accident.

Highways England said police were at the scene of the collision.

They tweeted: "Two lanes closed on the #M65 eastbound in #Lancashire due to a traffic collision, car and HGV involved, between J7 and J8. @HighwaysNWEST #TrafficOfficers are on scene."

A motorist said: "I'm currently stuck at the Accrington junction going towards Burnley.

"There are three lanes of queuing traffic which is at a standstill."

An ambulance service spokeswoman said a woman has been treated for minor injuries.

The spokeswoman added: "We were called at around 8.30am to a two-vehicle collision.

"A woman was treated for minor injuries but did not need to be taken to hospital."
