NEW playground equipment is unlikely to be brought into Rishton due to cost according to councillors for the area.

Rishton Enriching Community Association have been campaigning for residents to get involved and work together to try and get more facilities in the area for young people.

The calls came after equipment faced vandalism problems, such as the skate park in Harwood Street.

Cllr Jeff Scales, who represents the area on Hyndburn Council, said it is unlikely new play equipment will be introduced into the area unless it can be completely run and looked after by the community.

He said: “The difficultly with trying to get new facilities is that it would effect what we have currently.

“We do have some great facilities like at the Cut Lane, and if it if we had to pay for more facilities it would hurt that.

“We’ve had problems in the past with anti-social behaviour and vandalism in places like the skate park in Harwood Street.

“If someone from the community was to come forward and make us a good offer than that would be great, but they’d have to have it all sorted themselves.”
