A COUNCILLOR is urging highway bosses to take action over concerns a "busy" junction is crumbling and causing problems for motorists.

Rishton councillor Ken Moss said he has received complaints from residents about the state of the junction at Meadowhead Drive and Petre Crescent in Rishton.

Residents said the road surface has deteriorated so much the road has started to lift and potholes have formed.

The loose surface is claimed to be damaging cars using the road and chipping paintwork with stone chips.

Cllr Moss is now urging Lancashire County Council road bosses to come out and access the road, and if necessary to consider resurfacing it as it has been previously.

He said: “The junction is well used and is also used as an access road into the area.

“It is very busy all the time, which is causing it to deteriorate and the condition of it has become worse.

“It has been reported to the county council and a handful of residents have been complaining to me about the issue.

“The road has been resurfaced before but because of its constant use, it does need looking at again.

“We are waiting for the county council to deal with it and repair the road.”

The damage to the road is said to have been caused by daily wear-and-tear of cars coming in and out of the area.

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council spokesman said the "standard procedure" to send someone out to access the road would be carried out to see what could be done.

He said: “We would ask people to report issues with the road or pavement surface to us so that we can inspect them and carry out any repairs which may be needed to ensure safety.”
