A MOTORIST attempted to set a car on fire after crashing in to a bush.
The incident, involving a silver Peugeot 407, happened in Lee Lane, Rishton, at 12.40am this morning.
Firefighters from Hyndburn Station were initially called out to what they were told was a one-vehicle crash.
But when they arrived they discovered the car was empty, but before fleeing the scene the occupant had set a rag on fire and left it on the driver's seat.
Firefighters, who were at the scene for around 15 minutes, used a hose reel to extinguish the flames.
A fire service spokesman said police are investigating the incident.
The car suffered damage to the front from the impact of the crash and fire damage to the driver's seat.
