A RISHTON club has been named the best in the district by real ale enthusiasts.

Rishton Conservative Club, on Cliff Street, was named the CAMRA East Lancs branch Hyndburn Club of the Year.

Phil Drew, chairman of CAMRA East Lancs branch, handed the award to the club's secretary Dave Lees at the club's annual beer festival last weekend, which was held over three days and raised money for Guide Dogs UK.

Dave said: “Everybody was really pleased with the CAMRA award. We don’t chase accolades but it’s nice to get the recognition and the committee and members are very appreciative.”

The second Close Encounters beer and cider festival attracted 700 people last weekend, with the entertainment provided byThe Ginjammers and Hyndburn band Over Aged White Men.

The pub is now planning to stage a second festival in September.
