POLICE are renewing appeals in their investigation after a schoolgirl was sexually assaulted in Oswaldwistle.

At 8.10am on Wednesday 14th March the 14-year-old was walking on a footpath off Broadfield, Oswaldtwistle, when she was approached from behind by a man who put his hand under her skirt.

The girl screamed and the man ran away back down the path. She was shaken but physically unhurt.

The attacker is described as white, in his 20s wearing a shiny black puffa jacket with the hood up.

DS Bryony Midgley, of East CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this assault and we have been making numerous enquiries as well as having extra patrols in the area.

“I would urge people to remain vigilant and alert but not alarmed and to report anything suspicious to the police. There have been no similar incidents reported since last week.

“This happened in broad daylight and left the girl very shaken but fortunately unhurt. She and her family are being supported by officers.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 0322 of March 14th, or 999 in an emergency, or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
