A 49-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court accused of fatally shooting a dad-of-two on the doorstep of a house in Oswaldtwistle.

Matthew Moseley, of Barnard Close, Oswaldtwistle appeared at Blackburn Magistrates Court yesterday and spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth during the three minute hearing.

The tree surgeon was accused of fatally shooting 32-year-old Lee Holt, from Accrington on the doorstep of a house in Barnard Close at 8.25pm last Wednesday.

Mr Holt suffered a single shot wound to his chest.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he died of his injuries a short time later.

After the incident a 14-year-old boy from Oswaldtwistle was arrested on suspicion of murder.

A day later a second man, aged 49 and also from Oswaldtwistle, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The 49-year-old man was released on Saturday but following further enquiries re-arrested.

Defending Moseley, Iain Johnstone, said his client has no previous convictions but understood there was no mechanism for making a bail application in the magistrates court.

Moseley was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court where he will appear on Thursday.

The 14-year-old boy was earlier bailed by police to November 22.
