A CHARITY set up in memory of a popular Hyndburn sportsman has installed another piece of lifesaving equipment in the borough.

Stuart Maher, from Great Harwood, set up the Philip Maher Foundation in 2015 after his father died, age 62, after collapsing during a football match.

The group has been working to install the equipment in as many places as possible, especially at sports grounds.

The charity has now handed over a defibrillator to Oswaldtwistle St Mary's Football Club, at the Heys Sports Complex.

Philip Maher played many games at the site for Foxhill FC and latterly Oswaldtwistle FC.

His son Stuart said: "We have been busy delivering more life saving equipment in the community.

"It is quite a poignant site to install another defibrillator.

"Fair to say the place has changed somewhat since those days.

"But it's fantastic to hand over another defibrillator to a sports ground that meant a lot to Phil."

Volunteers at the charity said they will be installing more defibrillators across the area in the coming weeks and months.

Early this month the charity installed its 10th defibrillator at at Lowerhouse Cricket Club in Burnley.
