TIME detectives will give visitors a glimpse of the past at a library this month.
To celebrate community history month, Great Harwood library has arranged a talk giving tips on tracing family trees, as well as a look at the dangers of walking the streets in times past.
The day begins at the library's coffee morning at 10.30am on Thursday, May 8, when Mormon missionaries will give a talk called, "An introd-uction to Family History".
All are welcome, and entrance and refreshments are free.
Throughout May, visitors will also be able to read extracts from the 1855 nuisance book of Great Harwood, which details how streets had open sewers and waste from abattoirs thrown into them.
The nuisance book comes from a time before the area had a formal council and a group made up of well-to-do individuals were requested to solve issues.
Extracts from the book, along with pictures of Great Harwood taken in the 1900s, will make up the display called "Dwellings, ditches and bedpans."
