A SUPERMARKET was closed yesterday morning after a fire began just before it was set to open.
Fire crews were called to the Co-op, Queen Street, Great Harwood, after a blaze in a freezer unit at around 7am.
Bosses at the store said that minimal damage was caused and the shop was able to re-open by lunchtime.
The supermarket is set to undergo an extension which will see the floorspace grow by around 27 per cent.
The plans are a bid to compete with a proposed new Tesco store set to be built nearby on the site of the Metflex rubber factory, also in Queen Street.
