A WOMAN ended up locking herself in the dining room after being assaulted by her partner.

Blackburn magistrates heard Kirk Whittam pushed his partner over, causing her to bang her back and then punched a kitchen cupboard door.

Whittam, 39, of St Cecilia Street, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to assaulting Sonia Fawcett and criminal damage to the cupboard door. He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with a 40-day rehabilitation activity requirement. He was fined £25 and ordered to pay £100 compensation.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said the defendant and Miss Fawcett had been drinking in the afternoon and he had gone back to her house first. He had left his phone on charge in the club where they had been and blamed her when she came home without it.

“She tried to lock him out of her home but he came back in and the assault took place,” said Mrs White.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client was remorseful for what had happened.

“What nobody wants is that this doesn’t happen again and the probation service can help him in a way that ensures that is the case,” said Mr Taylor.
