SWEET toothed shoppers are queuing around the block to get their hands on a the latest trend in baking — cake jars.

Finch Bakery in Great Harwood has been welcoming customers from across the country keen to get their hands on the new product — which joint owners and twin sisters Rachel and Lauren Finch only started making to use up some spare jam jars.

The store's top selling dessert sold out in just 45 minutes yesterday after fans heard about the jars on social media.

Lauren, 26, said: “Since Christmas we’ve just been getting busier and busier.

“We always used to get queues on weekends, but recently it’s been everyday.

“I can’t believe how busy we have been, I wouldn’t change it at all.”

The former Clitheroe Grammar pupils said they are often working days as long as 17 hours to bake all the goods.

The Queen Street bakery has earned a reputation for its different flavours of ‘cake jars’ including candy floss, chocolate and vanilla.

They also sell a variety of cupcakes and wedding cakes.

Lauren said: “We’ve got a bit of a reputation for the cake jars, but we do so much more than that.

“They just started because we had some left over jam jars.”

The sisters, who have just one other full time staff member and an additional helper, said they would like to grow the business.

Lauren said: “We’re definitely looking to expand, we’re not sure how yet.

“Whether it is taking on a bigger unit and getting some more staff in.

“But I’d never want to be one of those people who just sit back, I love getting hands on.”

Some customers were turning up for the first time after seeing the bakery's popularity online.

Lisa Connolly from Blackburn, 34, said: “This is the first time I came, I thought it would be a good treat for my birthday.

“I saw it on social media and I’ve been really looking forward to coming.”

Beth Wakefield, from Manchester, said: “They made the cake for my 21st and since I was on half term this week I thought I’d made the most of it.

“It’s amazing the stuff they do.”
