A GREAT Harwood councillor has visited Pakistan to help support people from the country living in East Lancashire.

Cllr Noordad Aziz, who represents the Netherton ward on Hyndburn Council, met with managers from the Overseas Pakistan Foundation in Islamabad.

The group aims is to look out for the economic and social welfare of people from the country living abroad.

Cllr Aziz said the meeting was necessary given the sizeable community in the North West of people who had links to Pakistan and visit the country on a regular basis.

He said: “I am hopeful of collaborative working to improve the experience of people visiting Pakistan as well as capitalising on the success of overseas residents, and using that knowledge to bring positive change for the country.

“I look forward to working with many of my esteemed colleagues from all parties to bring this to improve services to people.”
