A KIND-hearted youngster braved the elements to walk from Great Harwood to Whalley and back again all in the name of charity.

Seven-year-old Leah Oates-Readett told her proud mum Joanne she wanted to help after seeing a homeless person on a trip to Blackpool.

And on Saturday, along with her cousin Brooke Whittle, 9, and family members, the St Mary’s pupil hiked across fields in blazing sun, driving rain and hail to complete her very own challenge. Joanne said Brooke did it for something close to her heart, and Leah did it for Shelter.

The total amount raised was still being totted up, but the pair raised more than £600 each, Joanne added.
