A FAMILY home has been partially destroyed by a fire.

The incident happened in Redhouse Close in Clayton-le-Moors at around 2am today.

Firefighters said the fire 'completely destroyed the kitchen and utility room' of the house.

They said the fire is believed to have been started by a heat lamp that had fallen over.

Two adults and one child were in the house at the time but escaped after the smoke alarm sounded.

Nobody was injured and the family called the emergency services from outside.

Firefighters from Hyndburn were in attendance for more than two hours fighting the blaze.

A fire service spokesman said: "It was a fire in the utility room and kitchen.

"Thankfully the smoke alarm woke the family up and when they went downstairs they notice quite a lot of smoke in the dining room.

"The utility room and kitchen were destroyed by the fire.

"It is believed to have been a heat lamp that may have been knocked over or fallen over which started the fire."
