A MAN has appeared in court and denied committing two house burglaries.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Martin Riley, 41, allegedly burgled a house in Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, on October 17, last year.

Between November 18 and November 19, Riley is said to have burgled a house in Sefton Close, Clayton-le-Moors.

On that occasion, he is alleged to have stolen a number of items, including the key to an Audi A3, a games console, games and other electrical goods.

During the short hearing Riley, of Burnley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, nationality and to enter his not guilty pleas to two counts of burglary.

Prosecuting, Stephen Parker said Riley may be facing imminent police action in relation to another burglary offence.

Riley was remanded in custody.

He will next appear at Burnley Crown Court on May 16 when his trial will take place.

The trial is expected to last two days.

Judge Beverley Lunt said: “The trial is fixed for May 14. In the mean time I remand you in custody. You will be produced for your trial.

“If you do not attend you will not be represented and the trial may continue in your absence.”
