WARNINGS have been issued by firefighters after a kitchen fire caused by a resident getting distracted while cooking.

The incident occurred just after 10am in Tarn Avenue in Clayton-le-Moors.

Two fire crews attended the blaze and found it was extinguished when they arrived.

Firefighters identified a pan which had been left on a cooker and warned people to be vigilant while cooking, especially at this time of years.

A spokesman for Great Harwood fire station said: " We would like to stress how important it is to not become distracted and leave cooking appliances unattended whilst cooking.

"In the event of a fire in a kitchen, or any room within a property, it is important to leave the room, closing the door behind you to prevent fire from spreading.

"Leave the property immediately and contact the fire service.

"We would encourage everyone to regularly test their smoke alarms to ensure they are working correctly."

Crews used a ventilation unit to clear the property of smoke.

There were no injuries reported.
