A PREMIER league team has offered to donate equipment to a local football club 'left devastated' by arsonists.

Burnley FC has offered to help replace Clayton Park Rangers Football Club’s equipment built up over 13 years after it was destroyed in the fire.

After the attack bosses at the club, based in Clayton-le-Moors, launched an appeal to raise £800 to replace the lost training equipment and goals.

The club has since surpassed its target after the Lancashire FA donated £500 on Thursday.

Darren Bentley, Burnley Football Club’s media manager, said: “I used to live in Accrington and my brother in Clayton-le-Moors so I have a connection to the area.

“My grandparents lived there too.

“I saw the story about the arson attack and thought it would be a good idea to help them replace their lost equipment.

“I have spoken to Burnley’s academy who said they are happy to donate balls and bibs to the club.

“A colleague of mine has also said he has a junior kit which he is more than happy to donate to help them.

“If the children want to come down at anytime I am sure we can organise something.

“We could even organise a visit at the club’s training ground and maybe even get some of the first team players to present the new equipment to them there.

“I imagine the children would appreciate that.

“From my point of view it’s all about helping out.”

Michael Forshaw, the club’s chairman, said he was ‘lost for words’ when he heard that Burnley wanted to help.

He said: “It’s gone nuts. I’m over the moon with it and lost for words.

“I did not expect the likes of Burnley FC to help us out.

“That has just amazed me.

“It has been a mad few days.

“I thought we were a little tin pot club from Clayton that no one knows about but they definitely know about us now. This has gone from something bad to something good.

“Last Sunday and Monday I was depressed, I picked up on Tuesday and then it went crazy from Wednesday.

“I want to give a big thank you to everyone who has helped us.

“We have reached our fundraising target so anything else we receive will be a bonus."
