LANCASHIRE FA have donated £500 to a football club to help replace equipment lost in an arson attack.

Firefighters said vandals 'deliberately' set light to Clayton Park Rangers Football Club's storage shed on Sunday completely destroying all of its contents, including 13 years of training equipment.

More than £800 has been donated to replace football training equipment and the goals lost in Sunday's arson attack at the club in Clayton-le-Moors.

Two-thirds of this total was contributed by the Lancashire FA.

Clayton Park Rangers' club chairman, Michael Forshaw said: "I'm absolutely amazed by the donation.

"I get a telephone call about 30 minutes ago saying we have reached our target.

"I said how can we reach our target as we're only on £300.

"Then I found out it was the FA had donated £500 which was just incredible."

Roger De Nobrega, LFA Chief Executive, said: “When it was brought to our attention of the club’s plight we had to try to help in some way.

"We hope the donation can be used by the club to purchase new kit and equipment and ensure football can continue to be played by the large number of players and volunteers involved with Clayton Park Rangers FC.”

Despite reaching the target set by the club, the chairman said the club will be accepting more donations.
