MORE than 300 keen runners attended the launch of a new parkrun event in Hyndburn.

In its first week 314 came along to take part in the weekly 5k run at Mercer Park in Clayton-le-Moors.

The event takes place on Saturday's at 9am is free to enter and guests can print off a barcode to record there times.

The run is volunteer led and people of any ability and age are encouraged to attend.

Liz Newton, event director, said: “It was great to see so many runners and volunteers bringing parkrun to Hyndburn.

"We are looking forward to many more runs and bringing the community together."

Hyndburn Council provided the startup funding for the run and bosses praised the launch of the event in the area.

Cabinet member for leisure cllr Ken Moss said: “Over 300 people turning out for our inaugural parkrun is a brilliant show of support and a fantastic way to get it off the ground in Hyndburn."
