TWO women have raised more than £1,000 towards their London Marathon fundraising by hosting a fun run in Clayton-Le-Moors.

Catherine Derbyshire and Julie Preston organised the Woodlands 5km run to help raise money for Pancreatic Cancer UK.

The event attracted 160 runners and who collectively raised £799 from sponsorships.

A total of £245 was also collected from a raffle at the event.

Miss Derbyshire, from Clayton-le-Moors, said: “It went really well, we raised a lot of money towards our fundraising, it was a really really good day.

“We’re both quite looking forward to the London Marathon now, a bit nervous, but excited. We’d not really had chance to think about it before because of organising the fun run.

“It’ll be great to go and soak up the atmosphere.”

They have raised £2,280 towards the £2,500 target.
