Pair released on bail

3:47pm Friday 4th April 2008

TWO men from the same family charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles have been bailed.

Patrick Maughan, 45, and Martin Maughan, 23, were arrested on Tuesday after a series of early morning raids.

The raids were part of a major operation by Lancashire Constabulary's eastern division to tackle an organised car crime gang suspected of stealing around £60,000 worth of power tools from vehicles in the last 11 months.

Thieves targeted vehicles parked in supermarket and other retail store car parks.

Patrick Maughan, of Richmond Avenue, Accrington, and Martin Maughan, of Barnes Street, Church, appeared before Hyndburn magistrates on Wednesday and were released on conditional bail.

They will appear at Burnley Crown Court on July 16.
