A 34-YEAR-OLD man who threw loose change into a taxi after a row over the fare was charged with assault after a coin hit the driver’s nose, causing a small cut.
Peter James Campbell pleaded guilty, on a reckless basis, to what defence solicitor Graeme Parkinson described as a ‘demonstration of frustration’. Campbell, of France Street, Church, pleaded guilty, at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court, to assaulting Shazad Khan.
He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months, and ordered to pay £100 compensation, and £100 costs.
Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Campbell had offered £3 to pay the fare, but Mr Khan was not happy with that, and an argument developed.
Mr Parkinson said Campbell had thrown the coins through the open window expecting them to hit the steering wheel, or dashboard.
“It seems one of them has hit the window edge and deflected onto the driver’s nose, but that was never the intention,” said Mr Parkinson.
