A PEDESTRIAN had a lucky escape after a wall collapsed, narrowly missing her.
The woman was walking down Blackburn Road, in Church when a quarter of a 35ft wall collapsed, crushing a bus stop below.
Three response police cars attended the incident shortly after noon today, and temporarily closed Blackburn Road, to traffic heading to Oswaldwaldtwistle’s West End.
The collasping wall belonged to a derelict building close to the old Commercial Hotel.
Lancashire County Council building services were also on site to survey the damage.
The road was reopened shortly before 2pm.
The owner Nisar Hussain was carrying out work on building when the incident happened.
Mr Hussain, 33, of Billinge Avenue, Blackburn said: “The building on the inside is just a shell.
“I have just bought the building last week at auction.
“We were just doing some light clearing work when the wall fell.”
Oswaldtwistle Coun Peter Britcliffe said: “I have been been really worried about those derelict buildings and this incident is a perfect of example of why.”
