EMERSON and Renwick engineering company, based at Peel Bank Works, Church, have signed an agreement with a leading Russian wallpaper company to provide them with a specially-made printing press.
The firm, which was founded in 1918, have created printers which are controlled electronically and remove the need for a pattern to repeat continuously down the roll of paper.
Formerly, the size of the roll on the press dictated how often it was repeated. Wallpaper designers then had to limit designs to match those circumferences.
However, the Emerson and Renwick Infinity Printing Press can create entirely random patterns without any repetition.
The move will see the company create 10 jobs for skilled electrical and mechancial engineers.
David and Colin Hargreaves, commercial director and chairman of the company, which was founded in 1918, said the newly developed technology and the exchange rate were both in their favour.
David Hargreaves said: “The exchange rate right now means we are 20 perc ent cheaper than our German and Dutch counterparts.
Added to which we have this technological advantage.
“Colin and I came up with the idea – the two of us and a few bottles of San Miguel, I like to say as we were having a drink at the time!”
The news of their success comes after Blackburn-based Graham and Brown signed an historic deal meaning that its trade in new markets is insured.
The firm, which employs more than 400 people, is also set to move into the Russian market.
