A YOUNG kitten with a broken leg has been give a second 'chance' after being found following a 'six hour' search.

A nine week old ginger kitten was seen crawling from the wheel arch of a car into the bushes at the side of the Henry Street in Church.

Andy Richards, from the Friends of Cats charity in Accrington, went to search for the animal after being told about the incident, and after struggling to find the animal issued a Facebook appeal for help.

Around 15 people came out to help search for the animal and two of them Stephen and Gemma Bain, eventually found the kitten, which they named 'Chance'.

The couple, who already have two dogs and three cats, have also said they will adopt the kitten.

Mr Bain, 26, said: "Just before we were about to give up, we found her right in the middles of the woods.

"She bit me twice, it was quite painful and there was a lot of blood.

"She was scared, she'd been through so much."

Mrs Bain, 30, said: "We were so excited to find her alive.

"Just because of all we went through we thought it was right to take her home.

"We just fell in love with her."

The couple are both volunteers of Harvey's Army, an animal rescue charity, having just recently signed up.

The search took place on Sunday and Chance was eventually found at around 8.45pm.

On Monday morning she was transferred to Vets4Pets Accrington, where x-rays revealed a severely broken leg, and hse was due to have an operation yesterday.

Mr Richards said he was delighted the 'dramatic and life-threatening' situation was able to come to a happy ending.

He said: "It was absolutely brilliant so many people came to search for her.

"This was a real needle-in-a haystack type situation, the kitten could have been anywhere.

"She is lucky to have survived the adventure and lucky to have been found and rescued just in time.

"She's a lovely little thing and will be a great pet."
