A RUNAWAY dog was rescued after a collision with a car left the animal trapped.
Firefighters and police were called after a Staffordshire Bull Terrier ran into the street late at night and was run over.
The animal was unhurt in the incident at 11.30pm on Tuesday in Henry Street at Church.
Police were called to redirect traffic and firefighters used lifting equipment to free the animal.
Crew manager Stephen Horrocks at Accrington fire station said: “The dog appeared to be completely unharmed and it only took five minutes to lift the car free.
“The animal had run out of a nearby house and was under the car before the driver could stop.”
Police said the animal was taken to a vet.
