PRIMARY schoolchildren were given a taste a high school – a year ahead of schedule.

Year six children at St John’s CofE Primary School, Baxenden, are spending this week at The Hollins Technology College, Accrington, while vital repairs take place.

St John’s CofE Primary School headteacher Christina Regan contacted the Hollins Lane school and asked if they had space for a group of 28 children while the school roof was being repaired.

The Hollins headteacher Steve Campbell agreed and found space for the children to ensure they did not miss out on any vital school work.

Although the break and lunchtimes did not overlap lwith The Hollins timetabled breaks, staff at the school arranged PE lessons to give the youngsters a taste of high school.

Hollins headteacher Mr Campbell said: “Pupils from Baxenden were very excited when they arrived on Monday morning and have settled in very well.

A St john’s CofE Primary School pupil said: “Instead of a taster day, we are getting a taster week.”
