A WOMAN was left with burns to her hand after a chip pan set alight.

Firefighters were called to a property in Norfolk Street, Accrington, shortly before 8pm on Tuesday, after neighbours saw smoke coming from the door of the house.

Hyndburn crew manager Neil Cooper said: "The woman had left the pan on the hob for too long and it set alight.

"She tried to put it out with water and flames flashed out and burned her right hand and arm slightly.

"We would urge people not to try to put out fires themselves."

The woman, believed to be in her late teens, refused hospital treatment and was given burn gel treatment at the scene by firefighters, who cleared the smoke from the building. No fire damage was caused.
