Teenaged Accrington burglar claimed he was looking for cannabis

A TEENAGER who broke into an Accrington house claimed he was looking for cannabis.

Blackburn magistrates heard the radiators and copper piping had been ripped out of the house causing extensive damage.

But they were also told that three days previously the owner had taken police into the house where they discovered a cannabis farm Chaz Michael Sharman, 18, of Lydia Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal.

He was remanded on bail by the court for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Gareth Price, defending, said the police discovery in the rented house supported his client’s story about looking for cannabis.

“He has said all along that he had nothing to do with the copper piping or radiators,” said Mr Price

He's a burglar, pure and simple. Weather he was intending to steal cannabis or some other goods doesn't really come into it, his intention was to steal. He should be dealt with as such.

I do feel very sorry for the landlord, he has had his house severely damaged by the people there, and it sounds like they were growing cannabis. These operations are becoming more widespread and are creating a real problem.

What causes this to happen..... in one word prohibition.
This policy has been an unmitigated failure has had an awful cost to society, not only financial but in terms of human lives and misery.
It has, in fact had the very opposite effect of it's original stated aims.
Due to prohibition cannabis is easily available to children and is often contaminated leading to illness.
Looking at countries where they have started to move away from prohibition to a regulated and monitored supply chain where mature adults may purchase cannabis if they so wish we can see they have vastly reduced rates of underage consumption, and even better they have very successfully managed to split the cannabis market away from the trade in hard drugs, with the result that there are virtually no new recruits for the heroin dealers!
