Accrington dog left for dead on Christmas Day making a full recovery

SKIN AND BONE Hope after she was found. An RSPCA inspector said she had never seen a dog so thin that was still alive SKIN AND BONE Hope after she was found. An RSPCA inspector said she had never seen a dog so thin that was still alive

A DOG that had been left for dead on Christmas Day is well on the way to making a full recovery.

The American bulldog, who has been named Hope, was severely dehydrated and malnourished when she was found in an alleyway between Primrose Street and Fountain Street, Accrington, on Christmas morning.

Weighing just 18kg, Hope was taken to the vets by the RSPCA where is was feared she would have to be put down.

But following weeks of treatment and care Hope, who was found by a member of the public, is on the road back to full health.

The RSPCA is appealing for anyone with information, or anyone who saw two men carrying Hope to the alleyway, to contact them.

RSPCA inspector Karen Chisholm said: “It didn’t look like she’d make it – she was in a dreadful state when I picked her up and it looked like the vet would need to put her to sleep to end her suffering.

“I’ve never seen a dog so thin that was still alive, it really was touch-and-go.

“After lots and lots of TLC she’s now turned a corner and we’re hopeful that she’ll be all right.”

Hope is between one and two-years-old, is white with black ears. The RSPCA are unable to trace the owner as Hope was not wearing a collar, she did not have an ID tag and had not been micro-chipped.

Amy Lasch, RSPCA Preston and District Branch Animal Centre supervisor, said: “She’s putting on weight day by day and is doing really well.

“When she was picked up she weighed just 18 kilos – less than half the weight she should have been. She’s now up to 24.8 kilos and fingers crossed that will continue.

“Everyone at the animal centre has fallen in love with her, she’s such a lovely dog. Her tail is wagging now, it’s really good to see.

“Hopefully in time we’ll be able to find a fantastic new owner for her.”

Inspector Chisholm said: “A witness says they saw two men carrying her up the alleyway but that’s all we know at the moment.

“We’re appealing for anyone who saw anything or recognises her and knows who owns her to get in touch.

“She was dumped on Christmas morning and left for dead. Who could do such a thing?

“Please, if you know, ring us.”

Anyone with information should call the RSPCA cruelty line on 0300 1234 999 and ask to leave a message for Inspector Chisholm.

The English are animal lovers - Obviously not!

We even chase to kill defenceless foxes just for the fun of it. A total disgrace!

I can guarantee that the childish idiots will soon be sending in their comments just to prove my point . . .

Someone has to know who is responsible for this and hopefully they will have the courage to inform the RSPCA or the Police so that they can be prosecuted.

I would be pleased if the government could bring a euthanasia plan into action for all these types of fighting dogs there is no need for them in a civilised society. And i find it an utter disgrace that there is'nt one.A civilised society that is.

Think your getting mixed up with the American Pitbull, common mistake a lot of people uneducated on dogs make. A fighting dog I not a breed its made that way by the owners. Its like being prejudice to a certain race in human terms. ANY dog from pup can be taught to be a fighting nasty dog and any dog from pup can be taught to be a good loyal family dog. This particular breed is one of the most loyal and intelligent dogs out there if they are taught well and they are very good with and protective of children. Hope the dog gets well and is re homed with a responsible owner. Disgraceful. Go do some research before you spout your drivel.

Give me a reasonable reason for wanting to own train and command another living thing for reasons other than food and i will do the reasearch.

Chip the dog and bring back the licence.
I hate people who treat animals this way. I have a staffordshire bull terrier who needs lots of exercise and time. Sometimes I dont feel like going out in the rain but he wont let me get away with it. Dont get a dog if you just want a status simble.

sadly they probably lready have another dog now and are treating it the same way.Bringing back the licence unfortuantley won't work as we haven't anyone to police it-thats one of the reasons it was scraped in the first place amongst others. We have people driving around with no car licences **** as fars or off their tits on drugs so having a dog licence won't help. bring back the birch or other forms of corporal punishment. It's the only way to deal with these mongs.

people need to spread the word about this dog, someone out there must realise their neighbour doesn't have their dog anymore or saw or know the guys that dumped her. I know the officer who is dealing with this is desperate to find the owner, so please tell your mates, put it on facebook etc, just get the word out there. Thank you

1. Guide dogs for the blind .
2. helper dogs for the disabled.
3. Companion dogs.
4. Sniffer dogs
5. Search dogs
6. Police dogs
7 Horses for riding for the disabled.
8 Farm horses.

There you have eight reasons, all reasonable. Let us know the results of your research.

Actually I have proof of asians breeding dogs and **** for fighting, they live across road from me, they been doing it for years, and all their relations are at it too, then theres the dealing(drugs) only a matter of time. hee hee ;)
