LANCASHIRE’S high achieving female volunteers were praised at an awards ceremony organised by Hyndburn charity Aawaz.
The event, at Accrington Town Hall, saw guests including Julie Hesmondhalgh, who plays Hayley in Coronation Street, and mayors from across the county attend.
Aawaz received more than 60 nominations for women across Lancashire and among the winners were Dorothy McGregor from Maundy Relief for her community work and carer Zohra Begum from Great Harwood.
There was also a special tribute by the Young Aawaz members and the women who use Aawaz across Lancashire to their chief officer Zulekha Dala for her dedication during the past 18 years and for the inspiration that she has provided to make others believe in themselves.
Hyndburn Mayor Paul Barton said: “The event is what commu-nity coh-esion is all about.”
