Stock from historic Accrington motorbike shop to be sold off

BARGAIN hunters are being offered discounted stock from one of Hyndburn’s most historic shops after it shut down.

Items worth more than £60,000 are up for grabs following the closure of Clarkes of Accrington, a motorbike shop which traded in Whalley Road for more than 50 years.

The store was placed into administration with Begbies Traynor in Preston last month and now asset recovery group Landwood has been ordered to sell off the stock.

Among the items available are 27 bikes along with helmets and other specialist equipment.

Bosses at Manchester-based Landwood are even opening up the former Clarkes showroom on Friday and Saturday so bargain-hungry shoppers can take advantage of the offers.

Landwood director Mark Bailey said: “It was a real shame when Clarkes shut because it was a family-run business and it had been there for years.

“Now we are just trying to get the best price possible for the stock because there’s a lot of very high-quality items there and some bargains to be had.

“When we’ve been down at the shop we’ve had people knocking on the door asking what has happened to Clarkes and asking if they can buy any stock.

“There’s clearly an interest and an affection for the company.”

Clarkes, a specialist Suzuki dealership, closed last month to the shock of neighbouring traders.

Hyndburn Council leader Peter Britcliffe called it “very bad news” and said Clarkes was to Accrington “what fish and chips are to Blackpool”.

The sale by Landwood of former stock closes on February 19.

Other viewings can be arranged by appointment by calling Landwood on 0161 8302109.

if the shop assistants were more polite and helpful maybe they would still be open.

"god help pc world and curries then if you need to polite to survive"

You don't have to be polite to survive, just sell enough stock to cover your costs. This is where Clarkes went wrong.
