A 24,000-strong petition against the closure of a walk-in centre has been handed to an MP.

Hyndburn's MP Graham Jones will submit the petition to parliament this week.

It is calling for health bosses to re-think their decision to close Accrington Victoria Hospital’s GP centre.

The centre is due to close on Sunday, June 17 to be replaced by a new system of GP access in the area.

Campaign group SAVE Accrington Walk-in centre said on Facebook: We would like to thank everyone who signed the petition and we hope that you will all get involved in the next stage of our campaign with more details to follow."

"Thanks once again for backing the campaign.

"The support we have received has been overwhelming."

The group said the walk-in centre had 44,000 patients in 2016.
