FIREFIGHTERS are warning home-owners about the dangers of leaving electrical appliances on overnight after a dishwasher fire.

Two people were taken to hospital after the blaze on Martholme Avenue in Clayton-le-Moors at 11.15pm last night.

It came after a loud bang came from the kitchen and a lot of smoke came from the dishwasher

A statement on the Hyndburn Fire Station Facebook page read: "4 fire fighters used hose reels and breathing apparatus to tackle the fire which was confined to the kitchen.

"Both occupants were taken to hospital by ambulance suffering the effects of smoke inhalation, the fire was due to an electrical fault within the dishwasher, we would like to remind everyone that it is better to not leave appliances on over night and to get smoke alarms fitted at least one upstairs and one down stairs.

"On discovering the fire the occupants did the right thing in closing the kitchen door this stopped the spread of fire and smoke allowing both occupants to leave the house."
