AN Accrington Stanley footballer has been charged with grievous bodily harm after an incident outside a nightclub.

Striker Billy Kee is due to appear in court regarding the alleged incident in Leicester on Sunday, January 22, this year.

The club said the player, who joined the side in 2015 after being released by Scunthorpe United, will continue to be available for selection.

The 26-year-old grabbed the stoppage time winner in Stanley's 2-1 win against Mansfield Town at the Wham Stadium on Saturday.

This is Kee's second spell at the club, having also spent a season on loan at Stanley during the 2009-2010 season.

Cardiff City forward Lee Tomlin, 28, has also been summoned to court charged with the same offence following the alleged incident.

Kee and Tomlin will appear before Leicester Magistrates' Court on Friday, September 18

Accrington Stanley said in a statement on its website: “Accrington Stanley are aware of the charges brought against Billy Kee, dating back to January this year.

“Billy will continue to be available for selection for Accrington Stanley.

“The club will not comment further on this incident at this time.”

Kee has featured in all four league and cup games so far this season for John Coleman's side, scoring three goals in those fixtures.
