COUNTY Council bosses have supported plans for a £2million redevelopment of Accrington town square.
Work is set to start on the project this month to restore the square and install benches remembering the town's history.
Hyndburn Council and Lancashire County Council will work to deliver the project alongside the Townscape Heritage initiative and contractors NMS Engineering Ltd from Wigan.
County Cllr Keith Iddon, cabinet member for Highways and Transport, said: "This scheme will deliver a high quality public space, providing a focal point for events and creating an attractive environment which helps to support the local economy.”
Much of the project will be centred on remembering the Accrington pals with six bespoke benches dedicated to remembering them.
Work is expected to be complete by July 2018.
