A COUPLE celebrating the birth of their little bundle of joy were surprised to find out he was the 5,000 baby to be born at Blackburn Birth Centre.

Kinga Foley, from Accrington, gave birth to her seven pound four ounce (3.37kg) son Logan at 11.30pm on Saturday.

He was the 5,000 baby to be born at the Park View Road centre since it opened seven years ago.

Proud mum Kinga said finding out her new arrival had helped the centre achieve it's 5,000 baby milestone came as a 'surprise'.

The 28-year-old said: “I was not expecting it when I came in, but it is a nice surprise and a lovely little memento to look back on.

“All the staff have been amazing at the birth centre. They are all really nice, helpful and caring, and it is a really nice place to give birth as everything is close by.”

Blackburn Birth Centre has four en-suite rooms, two with double beds and three birthing pools to give women the privacy they need, allowing them to have as stress-free birth experience as possible.

The centre, which was rated ‘Good’ in its latest Care Quality Commission inspection, opened in 2010 and is led by a team of midwives.

Angela O’Toole, head of midwifery at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Our team has accomplished so much in the past six-and-a-half years it’s been a pleasure to welcome 5,000 babies into the world.

“What makes Blackburn Birth Centre the best choice for having a baby is the entire team who are committed to making each family’s delivery experience unique and special for them.”
