A MUM has demanded a food firm recalls an ice cream product after her five-year-old son suffered a severe allergic reaction.

Oakley Hoole has a nut allergy and went into anaphylactic shock seconds after taking a bite from Walls ice cream lolly his mum had bought from Fultons Foods in Accrington Arndale.

The boy has since made a full recovery after his mum gave him a shot of adrenaline from an epipen, following the incident in the shopping centre at around 3.30pm on Thursday.

It is unclear whether the ice cream lolly was a ‘Funny Feet’ or ‘Freaky Foot’, but both are manufactured and supplied by Unilever.

Mum-of-three Vicki, 31, said the product had no warning on the labelling about it containing nuts or nut traces.

Vicki said: “I’ve bought Funny Feet lollies before and never had any issue.

“I’ve wrote to Unilever calling for the product to be recalled as it believe it may have been cross-contaminated.”

Karen Gunter, finance director of Frozen Value Ltd, which trades as Fultons Foods, said it has launched an investigation, both internally and with Unilever.

She said: “We have been selling the same batch of this product for a year now and haven’t received any other complaints.

“The description of the ingredients on the product are UK compliant and Unilever have confirmed they are investigating matters. We will continue to pursue Unilever for confirmation.”

A Unilever spokesperson said: “Our Funny Feet ice cream does not contain any nuts. Miss Hoole has been in touch and we will investigate further.”
