ROCKET power helped students at Accrington Academy celebrated British Science Week.
The 10-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths subjects included live experiments and demonstrations, year sevens working in teams to design, build and launch their own rockets and students competing to produce the cleanest water, learning about filtration and using a colorimeter to test purity.
There was also a competition to create an eco-friendly car.
Lead technician, Jodi Clements, who helped organise the event, said: “It’s been fantastic to see the students getting excited about science and enjoying all of the different activities we put together for them. It was especially nice to see them spending their lunchtimes watching the demonstrations and taking part in practical session’s in the dining hall.”
Accrington Academy Principal Andrew O’Brien: “The main aim of the week was to help raise the profile of science in a fun and exciting way. A big ‘thank you’ to all who took part and in particular, the teachers and technicians in the science department, who worked tirelessly to make sure the lessons and activities were engaging and educational.”
