HYNDBURN bowlers have said they are grateful the council is reducing the planned bowling green charges from £60 to £25.

It was announced at the Crown Green bowling league’s annual general meeting at the end of last year that the borough council was looking at implementing yearly passes costing up to £60.

However Cllr Ken Moss, cabinet portfolio holder for education arts and leisure, has said the pass will now cost £25 after talks with bowlers.

Mike Dickinson, chairman of Oak Hill Park Veterans, said it gives the bowlers more of an opportunity to take part in the game they love.

He said: “The groups are grateful to the council that the price has been decreased. £25 is much more affordable than the £60 that was being talked about before.

“Clubs are also putting in place other measure to make sure bowlers won’t feel the charges so bad.

“It will allow more bowlers to keep on playing the game that they love and means so much to them.”

Mr Dickinson said some clubs have organised a scheme where members will pay £1 a week throughout the summer months.

Several clubs, such as Oak Hill Park, will also be subsiding £5 per member of the £25 fee to make the costs even more affordable.

The season pass will be introduced from Saturday, April 1.
